Yagsbook Encyclopedia

One of the original aims of Yagsbook was to be able to generate campaign information in a form that was easily readable on a website, in a way that could be cross referenced and indexed like an encyclopedia. By using Yagsbook, campaign articles can be easily written which contain meta information about the document.

The Yagsbook Encyclopedia project takes that meta information and builds a cross-referenced and indexed Encyclopedia of all the articles, and builds a static website from it. It also makes use of Mapcraft in order to include regional maps of an area dynamically. You no longer need to mess around with generating a screenshot of a particular map region everytime the map is updated - Yagsbook Encyclopedia will do it for you.

What it isn't

Because it generates static content, it is not meant for interactive and publically editable content such as that used by Wikipedia for example. It is best used when the GM is producing content for reference by the players (and others).

What it is

For a best example of what it does, see the examples in the sidebar. The pages generated are static, so it is ideal for home pages where the author is not able to use dynamic solutions such as PHP or Perl.

The software is written in Java, and has hooks into Ant, XML and CVS. The author's encyclopedias are stored in CVS repositories, automatically fetched and generated by an Ant build file.
